You’ve been through a lot. The trauma that you’ve gone through impacts so much of your daily life. You go through much of your days trying to keep yourself busy so you don’t have to think about it all, but most days, it’s all that dominates your thoughts.  It also affects your relationships. It’s hard for people who haven’t been through similar things to understand what’s going on for you.  And sometimes, it’s hard for you to explain what’s going on, too. So connecting with other people can be hard.

But trauma does not have to define you. It is a part of your story, but it does not have to be the whole story. Even if the trauma you are facing is due to oppression, it does not have to be all of who you are.

Therapy can be a great place to separate out what has happened to you, from who you are and want to be. It can be a place to find peace, clarity or even joy in the middle of the hard things in life.

Here’s how we can work together

As a therapist, I am caring, understanding, and welcoming. We'll work together to understand what has been happening for you, and how you might work through it.  I’ll be your cheerleader, motivating and supporting you as you move through this process. I'll also challenge you to think differently, opening doors to new insights and personal growth.  But it won’t all be hard. I love to laugh, and those lighthearted moments are important. It makes the hard work less daunting.

What it means to me to work anti-oppressively

Incorporating Liberation Psychology into my work, I often call in the larger systemic contexts that influence us all. Systems of oppression impact us all, marginalized and dominant identities alike. I feel it's incredibly important not only to acknowledge our oppressed identities but also the spaces where we hold power and privilege. I bring my identities into the therapeutic space and encourage those I work with to do so as well.

As a biracial Asian and White woman, I walk through the world with an acute understanding of racist and sexist microaggressions. I see being multiracial for both its pain and privilege, as I get to navigate the world with an understanding of multiple perspectives. I am 3rd-generation Chinese and have my own understanding of generational trauma and acculturative stress within my family. However, I have only experienced what I have from my own perspective and never assume to understand how others who have gone through similar things have been impacted.

The details:

I received my Master of Education degree in Counseling from Boston University and work under the supervision of Jocelyn St.Cyr, LICSW.

I am comfortable working with the following approaches:

  • Liberation Psychology
  • Trauma-informed therapy

As a staff member at Healing Well Counseling, I am committed to training in trauma and ongoing learning in anti-oppressive approaches as I work with people with marginalized identities.
